The Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan inYei diocese organized thanks-giving prayers for the recovery of the Bishop’s car, forgiving the robbers as authorities struggle to arrest and bring to justice the perpetrators of the crime.

Bishop Hillary Luate Adeba said he has forgiven the robbers who he says were dressed up in army uniform. He recounted how they pointed a gun at him, his wife and son while asking for money.

The bishop was robbed on December 16th night in his residence, by robbers who also took his two laptop computers, an IPAD, 4,000 South Sudanese Pounds and a church Land Cruiser.

“I love you; if it can reach them please tell them that I, bishop, love and I forgive you. And if anyone knows them, please tell them that I have forgiven you,” Bishop Hillary said at the thanks-giving prayer service on Friday; describing the incident as a “shocking experience” he has ever had in life.

“I was raised up and dragged to the bedroom, and then the gunman got keys and gave me to open the draw to get the money while his gun was on my neck. Truly brothers and sisters praise God. It was really a shocking experience, so bad indeed but may God forgive them,” he recalled.

A joint brigade seven operation in Yei and Lainya counties intervened to rescue the vehicle after a fierce exchange with the robbers in Bungu, just near to Juba, with the robbers escaping with other materials.

It also emerged that robbers broke into Yei Electric Cooperative (YECO) compound last week, where they arrested the security guard and looted fifty three thousand South Sudanese pounds, according to the general manager, Malish Lawrence.

Catholic bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe commended the government for its effort to recover the vehicle and for keeping security stable. He urged citizens to be watchful and to be committed to end all kinds of evil.

Bishop Lodu also appealed for the arrest of the murderers of former Yei mayoress, and those involved in the shooting of nine people in one family in Lutaya residential area.

Paul Yoane Bonju, a national member of parliament representing Yei, said the parliament will be informed about the barbaric incident, adding that the arrest and justice to the perpetrators is needed to deter others who may want to do the same.

“We should have confidence in our security organs, let’s help them. We will not keep silent to tell the parliament that something bad has happened to one of our leaders,” Paul said.

The Government will continue to investigate, arrest the perpetrators and ensure justice prevails, said Yei municipality mayor, Santo Paul Lasuba, telling the citizens to practice self defense at home.

The County commissioner Bidali Cosmas Wori-Kojo encouraged every leader at all levels to go ahead in providing good services despite challenges.

In the same occasion, the commissioner revealed that the local authority had set aside an emergency telephone number for citizens to use for emergency services during the festive season.
