Famous NBA Luol Deng to lead South Sudan Basketball Association

Luol Deng will serve for four years in accordance with the constitution. In the same election, Mr. Marier Anyuat was elected Secretary-General and Deng Biar Deng, Secretary of Finance. The news of the election of the President of the Federation was confirmed by Mr. Chieng Dhieu, Chairman of the Electoral body.

Luol Deng represented England with the U-16 basketball team and was one of London's ambassadors during her bid for the 2010 Olympics.

Luol chose to play one season in the University Basket League with Duke's team, and was previously selected among all applicants for major US clubs in 2004. The Phoenix Suns selected Luol, and immediately gave him to the famous Chicago Bulls under an earlier agreement between the two clubs.

However, he managed to play for the first team and performed well in March and April and contributed to the Bulls' second consecutive title.

His older brother learned basketball at the hands of Manut Bol, and then coached Luol throughout his career.

Deng 6 feet 9 inches is one of the South Sudanese basketball stars after Manut Bol and Deng Gai.

Throughout his career, he has won several MLS titles, including the best defender for three years, as well as the best player in the league for three seasons.

Among his technical achievements are the title of the best defender of three seasons in the MLS, and best player of the three seasons. He is also awarded the United States Player of the Year award for humanitarian aid.

Former President Barack Obama considered him one of the best-loved players in the MLS. Luol visited the White House under President Obama.

The global player has been involved in supporting and humanitarian initiatives including linking the American league to the African league and the establishment of the African Champions Basketball Championship, as well as contributing to the establishment of private schools for the talent emerging in the field of basketball in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Sudan, Somalia and Rwanda.

With efforts supporting humanitarian activities, Luol provided some humanitarian assistance to the displaced people and war refugees in Darfur through the UN mission. He played a major role in establishing some development projects, including the rehabilitation of secondary schools and bases in South Sudan.

With his support, over 2000 students from South Sudan are receiving education at various levels of education including basic, secondary and universities. The widely experienced and recognized Luol, is expected to strengthen basketball association in South Sudan.
