[Juba, South Sudan, TCT] In a meeting presided over by the Chairperson of Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission [JMEC], former President of Botswana Festus G. Mogae on Thursday, the parties to conflict in South Sudan, the Government of South Sudan, SPLM-IO, SPLM-FDs, and other Political parties have finally selected ministerial portfolios as part of the formation of South Sudan Transitional Government of National Unity. The ministerial portfolios were distributed by consensus avoiding the format of selection but according to the ratios given in the peace deal signed in August 2015. According to the deal, the government gets (16) ministries, SPLM in opposition gets (10) ten, SPLM FDs get (2) two, while other political parties get (2) two ministries respectively. In his speech, while addressing SPLM Extra-ordinary convention on Thursday in Juba, President Salva Kiir Mayardit announced to the delegates of the convention that his government with opposition parties have successfully completed the distribution of ministries, marking an important step in the implementation of peace agreement. Among the key ministries taken by SPLM-IO are Petroleum; Interior; Higher Education and Land to mention a few. Members of SPLM Former detainees, (FDs) got Foreign Affairs; other political parties took Cabinet Affairs while government remained with Defense; Finance; Justice, National Security; and Health among others. Each party will nominate cabinet members. The nominees will be vetted by parliament before appointment by the president to the respective ministries. Kiir said, he has signed the peace agreement for the interest of people of South Sudan declaring that gun must go silence, “I swallowed my pride as president and leader and signed the badly imposed agreement because the intention for those who had different agenda to destroyed South Sudan brought the Agreement with mindset that I will not signed, and from there they implement their plan, so I signed for the sake of my people and they were shocked”, said President adding that, there must be forgiveness and reconciliation among political class and South Sudanese people.
