[Awiel, South Sudan, TCT] A peace conference between the Dinka-Malual and a section of the Misseriya has opened in Aweil town, Northern Bahrel Ghazal State. The three-day meeting will discuss migration routes for the nomadic Misseriya communities from Sudan’s West Kordofan into Dinka-Malual areas in Aweil East County during dry season. Speaking to journalists, William Kolong Pioth, the Peace Coordinator in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, said that more than 200 participants will also review previous agreements signed by the two communities before the seasonal migration starts early next year. “This is our annual conference that we normally do with our bordering communities whereby we go through a lot of challenges. When we do these conferences, we discuss the issues of migration of animals or cattle. So, in this conference we will discuss issues regarding the trade and may be our coexistence as bordering communities,” said Pioth. A similar conference will be held in Aweil between the Dinka-Malual of Aweil North and Aweil West counties with Rizigat of Eastern Darfur State of Sudan. The purpose is to engage the nomads and host communities at the border to share their resources peacefully. Now as it is between international borders, political wills from both countries must be needed, he explains.
