[By Male Daniel, Kajo-Keji, South Sudan, TCT] Religious leaders in South Sudan's Yei River State said on Friday that the series of wars fought in South Sudan with guns and aircrafts will never stop conflict and peace will never come to the country if the leaders do not agree to dialogue. However, they added that peace has always come when the church is at the center of negotiations.
Groups of Christians came from four counties, Kangapo, Kajo-Keji, Liwolo and Nyepo and gathered in Kajokeji town to pray and fast. They came for three days of praying yesterday and the event is expected to end over the weekend.
One of the leaders made remarks urging the church to wake up and move to end South Sudan’s ongoing conflict.
''Every gun, every aircraft, and even every kind of weapon we have purchased fills me with conflict, because we are using these things to fight our fellow countrymen. Every solider out there is a citizen of South Sudan: there are no outside influences. We need to unite. We need to unite and call out to God, God can grant us peace and unity”, The Reverent Eli Kajaminyo of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan said
He urged the South Sudanese leaders to calm their anger for the sake of peace and to focus on aiding those who are suffering within the New Nation.
“I was moved when I heard President Kiir asking the people of South Sudan to forgive him. Surely, we can forgive. But we need leadership to take the initiative to build unity between the people”, he said
He added that they should “work for unity and for love so that this country can experience the kind of peace that only God can give.” ''We need to unite and cry out to God to give us unity” he emphasized.
He also said it was a shame for the country to keep on buying guns that are used to fight fellow country-men.
Guns will never bring peace to South Sudan: But peace and unity can only be found through God
